Master of My Dreams
Published in Paperback by Avon (September, 1993)
Author: Danelle Harmon
Average review score:

My Favorite Book
This book is one of my favorites. I've read a whole host of genres and a good number of romances, and this book is still, by far, one of the best I've read. The characters were believeable, the plot and the setting were captivating. I loved all the twists, pain and heartache, and the joy and love that the book brought to me. I just loved Christian, the hero. I wish I could steal him for myself! And I thought Dierdre was wonderful too. She was so sweet in her innocence and yet so determined with her fiery will in her quest for vengence against Christian. It was an easy and enjoyable read.

This book is on my keeper shelf - a terrific romance!
I was fascinated by the summary of "Master of My Dreams," and the romance lived up to its billing! I found the British Captain Christian Lord a strong and sympathetic character who remains true to his convictions, and yet finds himself falling in love with another strong character, Deirdre O'Devir. They find themselves on different sides during the Revolutionary War, and it was truly exciting and moving as they found a way to fall in love without either compromising their beliefs. A truly memorable read! Katsy Siedschlag

Process Dynamics, Modeling, and Control (Topics in Chemical Engineering)
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (September, 1994)
Authors: Babatunde A. Ogunnaike, W. Harmon Ray, and Ray Ogunnaike
Average review score:

The best primer in process control for chemical engineers
This book was the text for my undergraduate control course. It gave me a better background in process control than the other books I purchased to supplement my learning. I highly recommend this book over others such as Marlin.

Ogunnaike and Ray covers subjects such as root locus methods, tunings using frequency methods, and digital control.

Dr. Ogunnaike is also an excellent lecturer, so if you would like to take the course directly from him enroll at the University of Delaware - its well worth it.

I also recommend Essentials of Process Control by William Luyben to provide a good qualitative background in process control.

A practical introduction to process control
This book provides an excellent, practical introduction to process control from the view of Chemical Engineers.

The book begins by considering the development of dynamic process models. It covers practical questions such as which state variable (eg. height) should be controlled by which manipulated variable (eg. flowrate) by discussing the physical behaviour of the system, rather than the approach commonly used by control engineers of an electronics background.

The advantage of the book is that it then goes on to discuss tools such as Nyquist diagrams and Bode plots, and how they can be used to characterise a system's behaviour, in a simple and clear manner. It then addresses essential issues such as controller tuning.

Finally, the book briefly introduces advanced control topics, such as Kalman filters and Model based control, in simple terms which would give an interested reader a running start into these fields.

My only regret is that I have lost my personal copy!

Archaeological Perspectives on the Battle of the Little Bighorn: The Final Report
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (June, 1989)
Authors: Douglas D. Scott, Douglasd Scott, Dick Harmon, and Richard A. Fox
Average review score:

Historically Significant
Even though I know all the writers of this book, I'm still NOT biased when I say that Scotts, et al book has changed interpretation dramatically on the Little Bighorn fight. Having worked at the Little Bighorn Battlefield as an interpreter in 1985, I personally know how this interpretation changed, i.e. before the archaeological digs of 1984-85, most of us believed that Custer's men fell mostly to arrows. We now know that the U.S. soldier's were outgunned, thanks to this field work and as reported in the book. Since Scott's final report, headstones on the battlefield marking where "unknown soldier's" fell have been replaced by actual names, e.g. Mitch Bouyer. This reality came to place thanks to the forensic work of Dr. Clyde Snow (his complete report is included in this book). Finally, Scott and his team create a vivid picture of where the Indian warriors moved over the battlefield fighting for their families down the hill and across the river.

The book provides the most up-to-date consideration of Leon Festinger's Theory of Cognitive Dissonance (1957). It is a must read for anyone interested in the relationship between cognition, emotion, attitudes, and behavior.
